Togo, West Africa

“Going to Togo, Africa and experiencing the universality of the Catholic Church and the beauty of the culture there was life changing. I will always remember how God moved my soul through the people I interacted with there, particularly the FOCUS team and the villagers of Atchanve. The entire mission was a huge blessing that I thank God for every day.”

- Joe Weaver, University of Kansas

This mission trip will take you to a small village in Togo, Africa called Atchanvé, where you will assist an American missionary priest with his mission to share the Gospel there.  You will have the chance to immerse yourself in the culture of the Ewe tribe and experience life in a rural African village, as well as visit a few other villages in the area as Father brings them the Sacraments, which many there can only receive every few months.  The work consists of whatever Father Ryan needs, ranging from helping with construction of a new church, to organizing donations, to helping villagers with their farming, or working with children at the Catholic school.  The local language is Ewe, but many of the younger people also speak French.  Knowing French is helpful, but definitely not necessary.
This mission will allow you to experience the universality of the Catholic Church from the perspective of a culture completely different than in America.  You will have the chance to witness the joy of a people who live their whole lives without electricity or running water, but who rejoice in the Lord still because of His goodness.  Apply to this mission if you desire to serve God and His Church in Togo!

  1. Each FOCUS Missions participant has the opportunity to fundraise the entire cost of their mission trip. Consider that fundraising allows people who may not have the opportunity to travel on a mission trip to participate in this essential work through you. In another sense, “some give by going while others go by giving.” Allowing others to support us through their financial commitments and prayers is essential to the success of FOCUS Missions!
  2. You will be contacted by your personal fundraising coach soon after you have been accepted on a mission trip to train and mentor you in each step along the way.
  3. Please feel free to contact us at any time by phone or email with your fundraising questions.

“Prior to this mission trip, my spiritual life was languishing and I was a lukewarm Catholic not taking my faith seriously. Over the course of the mission trip I was able to receive the Eucharist every day, pray the rosary every day, talk with our Lord for a whole hour every day, and meet some of the greatest people in the world with whom I will remain lifelong friends. After a month in Africa I realized why I need to pray, the importance of my faith, and that I really want to go out and spread the faith to other people on the campus! Thank you FOCUS, this mission trip was a great success!”
